Living with vertigo for over 30 years

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:30 am

I believe that I have had vertigo all of my life, but it didn’t truly impact my life until 34 years ago. I had all of the classic symptoms - subjective dizziness nausea, lack of concentration, and was just plain sick. I spent two years in bed. I had surgery for it - two brain surgeries to eliminate constriction on my 8th crainial nerve. The second one on my right side left me more sick than I had ever been, if that was possible. I had a neurectomy of the 8th nerve on my right side. ...Read the full article

OMG I am so sorry to hear about your struggles and surgeries. That is awful, and 2 years in bed. Man this condition is debilitating at times. It can really cause depression and make you want to die. I hate it. I have had vertigo 3 times now. I first got it in 2003 and ever since then I suffer from dizziness and started having full blown panic attacks. I am so afraid I am going to pass out. It affects my schooling. I was unable to start my 2nd semester of nursing school because I got an episode of vertigo that lasted for 12 days. My instructor suggested and MRI and blood work. This last time I got it I felt weak and my neck was stiff I could hardly turn my head. I hate this! I wonder what is wrong with me. I have also looked up a link between this and hormones. I don't know why there is so little know about this conditon it seems like doctors are at a loss with this and in the mean time we are suffering and struggling. My doc recommended physical therapy too! I just wish there was more help and concrete info out there to help us. I hope life will be brighter for you, you deserve to enjoy it especially because you had to suffer for so long.

This is truly an inspirational story Ms.Judi. And I am so happy that I can still hear a bit of joy in the background of your story. I am not sure how you coped with it for so long. Like you I have had Vertigo for more than 10 years. Now that I think back to when I was in high school when the episodes started, may be I could have had treatment earlier. Who know. But I am truly thankful that you are able to get on with your life...
