Total Incontinence

Post a new topicby milosmom on Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:27 pm

I am a 55 year old woman. On Aug.13, 2007 I had a complete hysterectomy. I had a medium grapefruit size Cyst on my left ovary. My doctors decided to do a complete hysterectomy because I have a lung disease and can not go under general anesthesia I had a spinal and all went well. My recovery was good. It wasn't till 2 weeks after my surgery that this problem started. I did not start with alittle drip drip drip. I have total incontinence. I have no control of my bladder. It is like the shut off valve is broken. The worst is when I stand up and I get this big rush of urine. I am totally confined to my house. I am changing either a depend and pad every 45 minutes to 1 hour or just the pad. If I move or get up then it is with minutes that I have to change. I am going through depends and pads like crazy. I can't even enjoy and evening out with my husband. The only place I have gone in the last 3 months is to the doctors. I also have had a bladder infection since May. What a mess that is. My body is becoming resistant to antibiotics. I have taken alot of antibiotics with no results. I have even been on iv antibiotics and we were told the two I was on were the best and neither one touched the infection. I have been septic twice now because of a bladder infection. The incontinence is not caused from the infection. We do know that for sure. I was wondering if there is anyone else who is totally incontinent and what they have done? Oh yes I do have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to see a GYN Urologist
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I hope your appointment went well. You will probable be helped by a urodynamic exam and a cystoscopy to determine what exactly is the problem, good luck

Hi, Sorry I didn't post sooner. Finally have learned why I am incontinent. When I saw the GYN Urologist he put a tube into my bladder and his nurse poured water into the tube and it came out as fast as it went in. I have a dime size hole in my bladder and an area that was cut and stitched up in my vagina the stitches came out. So now my urine goes from kidneys to bladder to vagina out in a constant flow. The "oops" in my bladder was done during my hysterectomy. It can be repaired by surgery and I was hoping they would have scheduled it right away. But now. The GYN Urologist wants to scope my bladder and his next available appointment is not until Nov.19th. Then after that surgery will be scheduled, either late Nov. early Dec. I am not sure I will make it that long. This problem is really getting to me. I can't go anywhere! I have to change my "depend" and pad every hour and that is if I am sitting. If I stand or move it has to be changed immediately. The rash is awful and since I am wet all the time finding something to help the rash is hard. My thoughts are this was caused during surgery and I thought they would fix it right away not make me wait 3 months to repair the damage. I am becoming emotionally drained.
