Sleep Study x2November 07 I had an overnight sleep study and nap study the following day. The environment was EXTREMELY nosy the first 3 hours from the heating units..like a jack hammer in the room..then I finally got a tech in my room, turned off the heat and slept althogh frustrated. For the nap study I also went to sleep all 5 naps. The results were I had desats/events during REM sleep. I can't remember non REM events. I ended up with a recommendation of "tech will try to provide a sleep hygiene instruction" (tech didn't try as it didn't happen) and when reading my own medical records I learned about desats in the lower 80's with a recommendation of not to use any sedative medications or drive when drowsy..no further testing needed. I learned this after accessing my own medical records.
Last night November 08 I repeated the sleep study after calling all that my insurance will cover and thoroughly interviewing them on environment, communication with patients, certification of tecs, and subspecialist physicans overseeing the results. This morning the tech told me I had destats in the lower 80's during REM sleep, and she expects I'll return for CPAP trial to see if I stop desating in REM. I sleep well at the center, was awaken at 4:30 to end study, showered, drove home went to bed and slept until noon. Life goal currently is to get enough sleep to function at work which means I spend a tremendous amount of my non work time sleeping. Sometimes so fatigue I have gone shopping for groceries/clothes only to leave and return to bed. Only other medical problem with potentially affecting fatigue is hypothyroidism dx. 1-07 and now TSH is 2.7 which is good. I've been convinced my hypoT is the worse problem with my fatigue, but with first time good TSH lab range I still am having brain fog and fatigue. My question: With desats in REM sleep only, is this consistent with OSA and sufficient to cause symptoms of life changing fatigue and cognitive fog. Have others found relief with similiar sleep study results and CPAP. Thanks, SleepyHead
