Side Effect of CPAP Machine?I am a 63-year-old father of two teens (14 & 17) and had attributed my fatigue to aging and the youngsters. However, after just 3 weeks on my CPAP machine I have as much vitality and energy as when I was in my 30's. After the first night on CPAP (sleep study) I felt like a new man throughout the day and on into the evening. I am delighted and grateful for the technology. Sometimes I have even slept through the night without having to get up to urinate. Of course when I awaken there is a fast trip to the bathroom. My posterior is not dragging when I get up. I am looking forward to the new day! My wife says that I have not snored once. I know I'm not cured because last night I feel asleep in my chair watching late night T.V. and was interrupted by my wife who could hear me snoring on the other side of the house.
Here is my question: I'm going to forge through the embarrassment. Not always, but perhaps 5 times in the last three weeks I have been very "gassy" in the morning. My diet has not changed. Although the men on my side of the family are known for that malady, this is new to me - at least to the degree that I have been experiencing it. I wonder if in my sleep I might be swallowing air? My wife indicates that she has heard no sounds that she would associate with that but none-the-less, I wonder. What do you think? Have any of you experienced a similar problem? O.K. comedians, throw in your humor if you must - I can take a joke - but honestly, this is a serious question. Of course the problem is not really a problem (at least for me). I love that machine so much that I look forward to using it and don't intend to give it up. Thanks to anyone who responds. Cloudman

Since I have been using my Cpap (almost a year now), and recently I started to notice when I awoke in the morning, I usually had to belch. I could feel the air pocket down right at the top to the stomach. I have also had the flatulence as well. I only have a nose mask for my Cpap and I see with my mouth closed, but because the air is constantly being forced into the airway's I am still making saliva and swallowing. So some of the air is swallowed too. Not sure if there is a reason for this or an isolated to a certain few. Sorry I can't offer a cure, but I know what you are going thru.
