Neuropathy in feet

Post a new topicby Solivia on Mon Oct 06, 2008 11:36 pm

I'm 60 years old, and I have had neuropathy in feet since July 1, 2005. I remember the date this came on all too well, because the day before I stood in 96 degree heat watching a friends band play at a festival. The next morning when I got up, I couldn't put my feet on the floor without crying. The pain was like I was standing on super heated nails and broken glass. For the first 2 years, it was really bad in hot weather, and seemed to ease off in cold weather, then was bad year round.

I was referred to a wonderful Neurologist here in my area, and he put me on Lortab and Trileptal. The Trileptal helped for awhile, so did the Lortab. I was already taking Cymbalta, and he tried me on the Lyrica. The Lyrica made me so tired I could barely make it to the bathroom. The Doctor tried for 7 months to prescribe Oxycontin, and I was afraid of it. I would go into the office and BEG them to amputate my feet. After months of this, I did take the Oxycontin and it helps a lot. I will tell you all another thing that helps, and it is so simple. I found some thick fuzzy socks at a department store and bought a couple of pairs. The first time I put them on, my feet felt so good I slept in them. I couldn't believe what a difference they made. I now own about 20 pairs of these socks and have given 2 pairs to my pharmacist to give to his other customers with neuropathy in the feet. I found them for $2.00 a pair at a discount store, and I think WalMart and KMart sells them. They along with the meds are a miracle as far as I'm concerned. They are cheap enough for the relief they give. I just wish they made gloves like that, I think I am getting this in my hands now.
