Neuropathy? Burning sensation ....Ok so here is what is going on my grandmother is about 83 years young & she has been getting up every night with a burning sensation all over the upper part of her body ... the burning only occurs at night and at times her arms feel cold to her although she is burning up ... also she does not sweat at all even though she has to put ice packs all over her body (from head to vagina) just to feel some sort of relief which is really no relief at all ... sometimes we find her naked sitting on the cold basement floor ... please could this be Neuropathy ? Anyone please!!!!
Sponsored LinksRe: Neuropathy? Burning sensation ....Typically, neuropathy occurs in the feet first, but it can involve the arms prior to the legs. One example is a small fiber neuropathy. This would require a neurologic workup including a detailed history, exam and possibly electrical testing to evaluate the nerves, such as an EMG. To further test for a small fiber neuropathy, a skin biopsy to evaluate the small sensory fibers can be helpful. Laboratory testing can also search for treatable causes. Other possibilities include cervical spine disease such as a slipped disk or tear in the spinal cord. MRI would help in this case. Based upon the above, treatment options can then be discussed. I would assume that her general internist already screened for medical disorders.
Hope this is helpful.
