Neuropathy

I have been diagnosed with arthritis (had it for the past 25 years) and also DDD (Degenerative Disc Disease)which became apparent when I slipped 2 discs L4/L5 & L5/S1 about 18 - 24 months ago. For the past 12 -18 months I wake anything upto 20 times a night with severe leg cramps, which I have been prescribed quinnine sulphate 300mg (which dont seem to do anything). I went to see a vascular surgeon about this and he said it is more than likely nerve related.
Does anyone know what this could mean?
I have checked my blood glucose levels and after breakfast (weetabix) It was 10.4, before lunch 10.2, morning after before breakfast 5.6 if that has anything to do with anything.
