A Duck Named Lung Cancer

Post a new topicby livingwith on Tue May 27, 2008 3:35 pm

I was diagnosed with possible lung cancer in early June, 2006. The diagnosis came from a routine X-Ray ordered through my primary physician.
It was pure luck. We caught it early.
A Computerized Tomography, (CT Scan) was immediately ordered. Rather than being the “certain” diagnosis, it provided a reason to test more thoroughly.
It still looked like a tumor. However, the judgement was that it appeared to be at the 1B level.
As you can imagine, I had practically worn my fingers...Read the full article

As with you my husband was found to have non small cell (squamous cell) by a routine checkup July 1st of this year. It's been pure hell since. As with most he had been smoking since the age of 13 (he will be 65 in Nov). He cannot have surgery because it is located in the left hilar region and encroaching his bronchi. Being treated at the VA in WPB, FL. Can't say enough about the program. All the specialists are not staff - they have their own practices outside - He started external beam radiation two days ago and will also start chemo on Friday, although we do not know if it will be once or twice a week. It will be carboplatinum and Tarvol.

So glad to hear how successful you have been and, hopefully, in the future. My question to you is were you on any special diet that helped while going through chemo. I am seeing such contradiction on the web that it's mindboggling. Any other hints would also be appreciated.

Keep staying well!!!

Thank you for your very encouraging story. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer 4 weeks ago and due to a previous lung issue 30 years ago he is not a candidate for surgery, although that is the best alternative for him. In any event he will begin radiation therapy in the very near future. He had prostate cancer a few months back and I am assuming this was where it all began. He was cancer free after radiation treatment for the prostate cancer but then lung cancer then showed it's ugly head.

In any event, I find you very inspirational and pray my father too will "fight" against this. He is 73 and with the number of health issues he's had over the years he's amazingly not an "old man". No room to talk, I am the baby but a 51 year old baby at that.

Many well wishes to you !!!
