Microscopic Hemeturia

Post a new topicby bcw on Wed Jan 23, 2008 1:02 am

Hello,
About 15 months ago it was discovered (to my surprise) that there was a microscopic blood in my urine. I was supposed to get a call from a lab about a CT Scan but it never happened and i forgot about it.
Anyway, right around the 1st of this year I discovered a few drops of blood after urination, this was immediately after doing a good 45 minutes of intense cardio. This was the first and only time I have physically seen anything. I called the urologist and they scheduled a urogram.
Today I get a call from the office that they got the results or the urogram and now they want me to have a Cysto which alarmed me becuase that makes me wonder if they found something.
The question is if they found out nothing from the urogram would the next step be a Cysto? or is that an indication of something else?
The person who called from the office did not know, all she said was that there seemed to be no urgency, meaning the Dr. didn't say anything like "get him in here right away" or anything like that.

Thank You

I am a kidney stones sufferer since 1972 and has passed many episodes of microscopic hematuria, and some gross hematuria. Right now I had been passing blood since 2006, and I don't have any complication (for now). To me (and for myself) it is signal of a kidney stone that is trying to pass down my urinary tract. Hematuria is always something that you must seek the cause of it-by consulting and being treated by a good specialist in urology. It has many causes, some prostate problems and glomerular disease of the kidneys could be the cause. However, don't get alarmed, but try by all means to discover the cause of hematuria. The book Principles of Internal Medicine and Campbell's urology all say that hematuria should be investigated as soon as possible, however, always try to be positive. In the Army, my first hematuria was a GROSS hematuria which frightened me to death. I had no pain, and doctors asked if I had a "VD". Some weeks later I passed a small stone which sored like a King Kong punch to my left kidney. Another thing, see if you don't have symptoms of anemia, constant fever or a sore throat, which could be the symptoms of a more serious complication. Don't take my words as absolute, a good Urologist can be the beginning of a good treatment or diagnosis.

Thank you for the reply.

I actually had an MRI done on my pelvic section and no stones or anything else was found. Next they performed a cystoscopy (I was not happy about that at all) to check for bladder cancer or bladder stones and they found nothing.
So it appears that I just happen to naturally have a small amount of blood in my urine.

According to medical treatises hematuria may be present after some exercise. Check if you are doing exercises or have done some hard work lately.
