GROSS HEMATURIA , UNKNOWN CAUSE

Post a new topicby VERYNERVOUS on Tue Jun 03, 2008 11:25 pm

I have had episodes of gross blood in my urine for over two years.Went to a urologist 2 years ago and again 6 months ago months and had every test you can get , TWICE in the last 2 years. No causes were found.I have been fine until today , ooops , there it is again.I stopped taking aspirin hoping this would help , well , it was worth a try. What to do now??another colonoscopy , yikes , not again. My bladder looked pretty good last time and I don't think something has grown in the last six months.More tests with more head scratching?.I am down to a self diagnosis of the Nutcracker Syndrome , a rare condtion that causes sudden gross hematuria .Why not it's a good as any other cause.Anyone in the same situation???I am open to any thoughts or ideas before I go for round three of "How many tests can we come up with" or "We will test you till your insurance runs out"..........PS I am 62 and in good health..

Verynervous, happy to hear you had no complications due to your two cystoscopy's. I am 72 years old and my urologist wants to perform a cystoscopy to determine the cause of a one time gross hematuria three months ago. I do have an enlarged prostate, large apple size. My concern with cystoscopy is, although rare, studies show the occurence of bladder neck and/or urethral strictures after a cystoscopy procedure.

months. Some discomfort but that passed quickly.I would go ahead and get one. They are looking for somthing in the bladder. It's not always bad. Many things can cause the bleeding.Good luck..

Thanks for your response, but I am going to postpone my scheduled cystoscopy for now. I am feeling great right now and the only symptom I have is slow urine flow. And, I do not wakeup at night with the urge to urinate. I really feel uncomfortable with the rare complications that could occur after a cystoscopy. I am glad to hear your cystoscopy's did not cause any problems for you.

Gross hematuria can be caused by the prostate as it grows because blood vessels can be break. I had gross hermaturia four months ago and since than my urine is blood free. Most Urologist feel that that a cystoscopy is necessary. Unforunately, a cystoscopy can cause complications which will aggravate any existing condition by bruising a weak external sphincter or bladder sphincter and can result in future strictures. Its like being between the fire and frying pan. Anyways, it is an individual decision to scope or not.
