Glaucoma

My 70 yr old mom went to specialist on her cataracts. The good news is that she doesnt need surgery yet. The bad news is that the Dr said she has something that COULD cause glaucoma. My mom said she cdn't understand Dr's handwriting, but thought it said pseudex folioator syndrome. Doesn't make sense to me and I cannot find anything like that. What condition is there that is a pre-empt to glaucoma, cd possibly cause it? I would like more info so I can help my Mom understand, as she is confused and frankly a little scared. Can you shed any light on this for me?

The condition is called pseudoexfoliation. It is a white, flakey material from the internal parts of the eye which circulates in the fluid of the eye. This material can "clog" the drain and cause the pressure to go up in the eye causing glaucoma. I believe you have about a 5% chance of getting glaucoma from pseudoexfoliation, not very risky and many people have this flakey material in their eye. Her pressures should be monitored every 6-12 months.
