Maintaining an erection and reaching orgasm

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Sep 19, 2002 9:42 am

Hi
I’m a 38 year old male trying to get as much information on erectile dysfunction Firstly I have been diagnosed with clinical depression 4 years ago and have undergone analytical therapy for three years which has helped a lot with the depression I have problems getting and maintaining an erection, which I’m seeing a doctor about, I also have problems reaching an orgasm, I have to tense all my muscles and push to ejaculate, this has been getting worse over years and is just the same when masturbating alone. I have a wonderful girlfriend who is very accepting of my problems and in itself that causes problems ‘cause we are so close and I guess that causes me to want to satisfy her and myself with her. I’ve read many articles that say ‘try to relax’ etc but with very little ideas of how this can be achieved. Oh anyway any help would gratefully be received.

Ps. I’m not taking any anti-depressants so that isn’t a factor.

Both erectile dysfunction and ejaculatory problems are commonly seen in depression, but we are not the experts in managing that arena. If your psychiatrist or psychologist is unable to help or refer to a sex therapist, perhaps seeing a urologist for an individual exam/evaluation will be fruitful.

Hi
I am a 40 year old male who hasnt worked for 3 years due to depression. I am looking for some help as maintaining an erection and having an orgasm are pretty impossible for some time. I know my Dr has said to me that because of my depression that this is this case but after sending me to see a sex therapist I am more jaded than ever. She told me to give up on sex for the time being..... Which I know isnt good advice. Any help or advice in getting back in order Please tell me.

I recently read that erectile dysfunction has been found to be a precursor to heart disease. The article encouraged men with erectile dysfunction to make an appointment for a complete cardiovascular workup. Since an erection is maintained by increased blood flow to the penis, the absence of an erection is usually related to blood circulation or nerve damage. Otherwise, there are the normal psychological reasons, such as: stress, anxiety, abuse and so forth.
