Visual changes...Seizure or Migraine?

Post a new topicby superk1216 on Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:13 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm a 23 year old female. About a year and a half ago I had an incident in which I was simply standing and talking to someone and my vision blacked out. I was completely conscious and it must have only lasted momentarily, but it seemed like someone pulled a veil over my eyes. After that happened, I regained sight and was extremely disoriented afterwards and could not focus with my eyes. I could talk, but it took me forever to think of the right thing to say and longer to process what others were saying. For the rest of the day I felt so exhausted. My body felt weak, especially my legs and I continued to feel disoriented for several hours. This same incident happned 6 months later. My GP thought it was anxiety but ordered an MRI which was fine. The neurologist said I was having basilar migraines but no headache was present. A couple of days ago this happened again only my vision didn't black out and I was sitting the entire time. This time it felt like a sudden jolt and everything got out of focus and the disorientation appeared. After ward I experienced the same symptoms as before. I have been doing some research of my own because I am not satisfied with the answer the neurologist gave me (you know how we all know our own bodies). Does this sound like a migraine or simple visual sezure to anyone? These episodes just scare me so much, I would like to know if someone is having a similar experiences. Thanks.

Wow!!! I am so very sorry to hear of what you have expierenced! It had to be very scary. It sounds so much like my first siezure as an adult. I was driving to work, it lasted nearly 10 minutes and I got off the road, thank God. Have you been able to see an epileptologist? They are a neurologist that specializes in the causes of eplipsey. I am ABOSOLUTELY NOT A DOCTOR but what you describe sort of sounds like a seizure to me. Siezures can show themselves in people in many different ways and there are many different types of seizures. You might talk with you doctor and see if he or she is willing to have you keep a log of your daily activity, such as working, playing, eating or watching tv. Has anything like lights, sounds, being in a room with a lot of people and it is noisy,or if you are tired seemed to make you feel as though this seizure thing might start? If you go to the Keppra sight they used to have a daily calander on site. I use it to log my sz activity, print it and givr it to my doctor. Lots of luck and best wishes. Hope you can post back and let us know status. gofis David

Thank you so much David. I will definitely start logging my daily activities and make it in to see a doctor. I will keep you posted.
