Hi, I have had seizures since 1995, I was 18 years old when I got into a car accident and went through the car windshield - head first. Well, now I'm 30 years old and I have had my fair share of medications. The first thing I would like you to know is that everyone responds to medications differently. Everyone has different side effects, and if you take any other medications it could interfer with your seizure medication drastically. I have taken Topamax before and I though it was a great medication, but I had to stop it because I am on Methadone and I found out that it reduces the effect of my methadone. Another good medication with limited side effects, for me, was Tegretol. I was on Tegretol for many years and I had no side effects - but that's me, like I said everyones body and system react to medications differently so you may need try a few medications out before you find the one that works for you. I am very familiar with most seizure medications, my mom is always telling me I should switch my college major and become a pharmacist. Anyways, if you would like to discuss medications contact me at my personal e-mail I would be glad to fill you in on my experiences. There is a couple questions I have for you to help you figure out what medication would work for you. Some medications are much stronger then others, and I don't know how often you have seizures or what strength you are looking for. [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]

First I'm the mom of a 16 year old that has had seizures since he was 8 years old. He is still uncontrolled. And he is on 3 different types of medications. Trileptal, zonegran and lamictal
he is maxed out on all three medicines and has the Vagal Nerve Stimulator too.

Anyway its something that in some cases you can stop having seizures. So please work really well to get to the point that you know the medication isn't working. And ask to try another.

Or add to the one your using.

We are getting ready to go in and do what is called a Video EEG. Its his 5th.

hello my name is bevin and I was diagnosed 8 years ago with a seizure disorder and have been on several kind since the age of four like phenibarbitol, tegretol, at age 21 when diagnosed properly was put on lamictal butt was allergic, now on depakote for the past 6 or 7 years. For your seizure your neurologist might want to try you on either tegretol with topamax or maybe even depakote the medicine I take for seizures w topa , or maybe trileptal a new seizure med I hear about. you need to go back to yourneurologist and tell him what happened and ask him what needs to be done. best of luck I hope these suggestions help. good luck. May the grace of God be with you and may he send his blessings your way.

I had a hard time in the beginning just wishing that the seizures would go away. The emotional side of seizures can be overwhelming. Worrying aobut if or when you'll have another can make you focus on nothing else. I can tell you that my life is now great, I feel so much better, and all that worry was not worth it. Good luck with everything and I hope you find what works for you.

My daughter is currently on Depakote, Zonigran, and Keppra. She is scheduled to have the VNS surgery soon. She is 18 years old. She has been on almost every medicine known...How long has your son had the VNS?

PLease please, do not drink energy drinks, the herbs in them will affect how your seizure meds work!
