Sis had neg. sweat test, checking genes anyways?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Jul 23, 2002 4:59 pm

My sister has been in the hospital with chronic pancreatitis and she is only 24. Because of her history and some other signs they checked her for pancreatitis. She hadn't eaten or had any fluids (except IVS) for about 2 or 3 weeks prior to having a sweat test. As far as I know, the sweat test came back negative. However, they are checking her genes anyhow. Can someone have a sweat test that doesn't come out right and still have CF?

yes. The sweat test is a good first test to do on a patient suspected of having cf but does not eliminate the diagnosis if negative. Genetic testing is much better and will help with determing the best course of therapy.
