CF children and smokeHi There,
How does second hand smoke effect a cf child of 5? Specifically we are aking if he should not be allowed near any one or any facility that allows smoking? If he smells smoke on others, if he smells it in a hotel or outdoors etc?
Re: CF children and smokeWhile I cannot give you references in the medical literature specifically about this, it makes complete sense to keep any child away from smoke and even more so a child with lung disease. Second hand smoke is now becoming a major risk factor for cancer and there is no reason to be exposed to it. As for the smell of smoke rather than the actual smoke, it may well make the child's breathing worse. The smell of smoke may also have some cancer causing agents in it that could be harmful. This includes fireplace smoke and candles.
