Need some answers about bunion surgery!

Post a new topicby courtneyt on Tue Aug 07, 2007 4:22 pm

Hi,
I'm 15 years old and I play basketball. The pain really starts after exercise. The bunion has caused my big toe to force itself under my 2nd toe and it causes pain at times. I often have pain on the other side of my foot. Is this because of extra pressure on that side f my foot? I need to know is it time for surgery?

Thanks Curt!
I am about to call and schedule an appointment. But I have a couple more questions. does a bunion cause the heel and ankle to hurt as well? I have been having extreme pain in my ankle the last couple of days, hope you can help. And also is there a chance that my growth plate there might not be done? If so will it effect ahaving the surgery?

Thanks for the help and hope you can help a little more.

Hi,
My name is Cathey and I can relate to your story. I have suffered from this family-related trait for many years and I can't tell you how much better I feel since I had surgery two years ago. Yes, it was a major surgery involving 6-8 weeks of recuperation and then several months of residual swelling but it was worth it. Bunion surgery (Lapidus procedure) is performed for the relief of pain not for cosmetics but it is certainly nice to fit into a shoe without that ugly prominence of bone. I am having the other foot corrected in a few weeks and I am well prepared for it. I am only sorry I waited all of these years suffering from that chronic pain. Find a good ortho surgeon and follow the post operative instructions. Walking and running without discomfort is so worth it, especially as you grow older.

Hey
I thank you Cathy for sharing your message of hope. I hope your second surgery goes just as well as the first. I wandered if you thought it would be smart to do my first foot over Christmas break or do you think I couldn't go back to school in time.
Hope to know something soon.

Hey,
I need to be able to start back to basketball by the summer of 2008. Do you know if it would be possible to get both done at seperate times and be able to make that deadline? Also I'm only 15 do you think a docor will want to operate on someone so young? I just turned 15. I also wanted to know how long would I have to rest in bed after the surgeries and will I have to be on crutches and how long? I plan to go on a trip up the East Coast on April 12, 2008 do you know if it would be a good idea to do these surgeries in a short period before the trip? The trip is 8 days long with lots of walking.
Thanks

Don't Do it!... I think I have a natural remedy for bunions... It worked for me... It may work for you!
Check out Bunionbusters.org...
Only ONE person is using my system right now but I'm looking for more people to try it.... The lady who is trying it is VERY VERY optimist, She thinks its going to work for her...

I don't really think it would be possible. It might work for you but I don't think it will work for everyone. I checked the website and you just don't have enough to sway my decision. Show me more info and I will hink about it. I still think I'm gonna go ahead with the surgery.

The lady who is trying my method now is in california... I'm going to ask her to write to you here about the experience she is having using my method... you wont miss any school and my acupuncher will help with other pains in the legs for instance... I'll see if I can get her to write to you... Did you read the facts about bunion surgery x WebMd?? Did you know that MOST bunion surgery are UNSECCESSFUL... If your 15 years Old I'd try something OTHER THAN SURGERY... maybe not my method maybe Acupuncture... Go see an Acupunctist... Your buion is beng cause by an inflammed BURSA which is the fluid filled sack that surrounds most bones... Get rid of the inflammation and you get rid of the bunion...PERIOD!
Just don't say I didn't tell you so...
I'll ask my lady friend to write you....
