Biopsy Results? After my recent mamo i was referred for a u/s due to dense tissue. The u/s found a spot that i was told should be biopsied. I was told to come back in a week and they would do that with the u/s. I was told if the results were favorable, the radiologist would call with the results. If not, my own doctor would call to discuss. On the day of the biopsy they looked at the u/s again and thought perhaps they would not do the biopsy. They were preparing to send me home when the radiologist came in and looked again and said we should go ahead with the procedure. He described the area of concern as being situated deeper than the areas where most cysts occur. During the procedure he drained a small area and showed me how that area "collapsed" as he did it. What remained was something solid that he took samples of. As he prepared me to leave, the radiologost told me he would call me in the morning with the results and made sure he had a number where he could reach me.
Well, it is now after 9pm on the following day and I have not heard back from anyone - not the radiologist and not my doctor. I'm very mindful of the fact that 80% of these things are benign, but I am anxious to put this whole experience behind me. There are dozens of reasons why I may not have heard anything, none of which are reasons to worry. I just would like to know what the findings are. I cannot find anything written that describes the location (below the area where most ducts are) and the combination of fluid and solid. Can anyone give me some insight? It's a long holiday weekend and I'm very on edge not knowing. --Thanks in advance.

Re: Biopsy Results?having performed many breast ultrasounds, breast cysts are found anywhere in the breast. most frequently they are very superficial. this does not make a deeper cyst more concerning. the problem with deeper cysts is that the ultrasound beam loses resolution(picture quality) making it more difficult to differentiate solid from cystic lesions and simple cysts from complex cysts. however, the fact that the radiologist aspirated fluid from this lesion is a very good sign.malignant tumors do not collapse and are more frequently solid in nature. some may have mixed components but that is infrequent. and if this were the case, the lesion would only partially collapse. i am not sure where this was performed, but sometimes just by looking at the fluid, the radiologist will have some kind of idea if it is worrisome or not. i would say it makes sense to not worry about this over the weekend because with what you have described, it all sounds favorable. i understand why you are so worried because it is scary waiting for the unknown. i think you should call the radiologist on tuesday or you
could try over the weekend if you cannot wait. usually there is an available radiologist working on the weekend in the group that will have access to this information. i don't think it is unreasonable to contact him directly yourself since he was suppose to call you on friday. i am unable to give you a 100%reassurance without seeing the images myself. i can reassure you though that cysts are commonly seen in the breast in women as young as 19 years old and are commonly benign.

Re: Biopsy Results? Results are Complex Cyst. Could you please confirm that bloody nipple discharge post-biopsy is normal? Thanks.
Re: Biopsy Results? This can be normal if it worsens or continues contact your doctor
Re: Biopsy Results?Thank you. Can you please explain to me the logic behind requiring continued 6-month follow-ups for benign conditions such as cysts, which have 0% chance of ever becoming cancer?
Re: Biopsy Results?sorry I can't
