Too young for this?

Post a new topicby daddyjaxx on Sun Mar 09, 2008 11:40 pm

I'm 42. A couple of months ago I had a real hard time urinating. My PCP put me on Flomax. I took it for like a month with no respite. I went to see a urologist who did a digital exam (the first of my life...yippee) and said that my prostate was swollen. He scheduled me for a uroflow test with a sonogram. My flow rate was like 6ml/sec and the sonogram showed thickening bladder walls. He put me on Uroxatrol. Again, after a month, no respite. Now I was lucky enough to get the cystoscopy That's two things put into parts of my body that are not meant to have things put into them. :) He said there is a part of the prostate growing like a nub over the urethra causing my problems. He said he does not like to do surgery on someone my age so he put me on Flomax and Avodart.

Aren't I way too young for this kind of issue? What will I be like at 60? 70? 80? My grandfather had prostate cancer ..at 80. My father is 65 and has no problems. Should I just say the hell with it and not wait 6 months for the Avodart to work and have the surgery because I can not keep living like this.

I was 43 when i got the same type of symptoms 6 months ago. Same S***, cystoscope numorus meds...
was told I had mild enlargement. Taking Uroxatral now, still not pissing that good at all. Having Testicle pain also for months. Uro doesnt seem to know what is causing that though. Going to see him tomorrow and see whats up with this, taking Vicodin 2x a day for discomfort. Dont want any surgery cause almost all will leave you with RetroGrade Ejaculation and who the f--- wants that.

Good luck bro....

I too was about the same age when I started having symptoms (frequency & urgency). Various meds like ditropan, detrol, flomax, uroxatrol and others provided varying relief of symptoms, but usually only temporary. Proscar in combination with other meds worked the best for me (proscar shrinking the prostate and the other meds controlling the reduced symptoms), but after a seven year battle, I finally gave in and had a PVP. Too early to tell what the ultimate results are going to be, but if I can get off/stay off the meds, I will be happy.

Well, I'm 38, and was diagnosed with BPH about a year ago, but I started having issues a couple years before the diagnosis...my doctor mentioned that I was very young to have such an issue, but I do, so it can happen way before your elder years. I'm currently on terazosin, but, I'll probably move on to flomax or avodart in a few months. I just read about the laser therapies available. I'll be looking into doing that too.

Planetoid, how are things since your PVP? Curious since this may be in my future.
