Nervous about Urologist visit any advise appreciated

Post a new topicby brewer362 on Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:44 pm

I was diagnosed with possible prostatis in Jan 2008 and given Doxycyclin. Things went away for awhile and then came back. I went to a different GP (same office) he did blood work and DRE. The digital rectal exam found that my prostate is slightly enlarged. There was no pain in the prostate when he touched it. The blood work came back fine with no infection and normal PSA. I was given Flomax and have been taking saw plametto. The problem now is I sometimes feel a discomfort between my rectum and scrotum after I have been sitting for awhile. I also have a burning/discomfort in my uretha. This does not occur while or after urinating. I can just be sitting or laying down and I feel it come on me. It is not constant and doesn't really hurt, it's just annoying. I went to my GP lst week and he gave me a Rossefin (spelling) shot and gave me four pills out of a Z-pack and told me to take them all at the same time. That was Thursday. It is Sunday now and I am feeling a little better. I have only felt the twinge in my uretha once today for about two minutes.

I am going to see a urologist just in case. I am very concerned that he may want me to submit to a cystoscopy This sounds very painful and it seems that there could be some complications. What are your thoughts on this procedure ( any real life experiences welcome) and your opinion about my condition in general? Thanks in advance.

I've never experienced prostititus, my problems are BPH related, but I am familiar with the feeling you are talking about, when seated on a hard or firm surface, especially during the healing process after my PVP.

Regarding the cystoscopy exam; we are all a bit different, but in my opinion, most cystos are nothing more than minor discomfort during the procedure and perhaps some initial pain (burning) for the first few voids afterward. I've had six or seven cystoscopy exams now; none of my cystos were performed with anything more than topical anethetic in the urethra, but I understand some doctors offer additional medication. Alot depends on the type of problems you are experiencing (how irritated your urethra, prostate, bladder, etc. are), the skill of the physician, and the type of scope used (flexible v. rigid). I think it is one of those things that really are XX percent mental and XX percent physical, but those percentages will be for you to determine.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. That eases my mind a little. I am probably worrying about nothing. The Dr. first diagnosed me with BPH and that may be hat it is. After my first post I rode around for about 6 hours on a tractor and practiced softball with my daughter's team. Man, I have been hurting ever since.

Brewer362, did you have a cystoscopy and what were the results? I recently postponed my cystoscopy because, at 72 years old, I was concerned with the side effects that could occur. I hope you have not had any side effects.

Brewer362, where are you? Have you had your cystoscopy, yet? We are all concerned.
