incontinence and loss of bowel controlI wonder if anyone can help. I am an 85 year old man who had untreated chronic prostatitis for years. I had urethral resection surgery about six months ago that appears to have failed. I have no control over bladder or bowel and my doctor doesn't seem to know what to do. I wake up every morning wet and soiled. Is there ANY remedy for this problem? I don't know how much longer I can live at home because my wife and I can't cope.
Re: incontinence and loss of bowel controlI hope your condition has improved. Unfortunately, if it has not, I can not help you, but I can not believe that there was no one on this forum that could not provide you with some type of information. At 72, I am scheduled for a cystoscopy, but I think once they start poking around your prostate it ain't nice. I pray for your improvement.
Re: incontinence and loss of bowel controlThanks for the word of cheer. I couldn't believe that no one replied to my posting either. I'm still waiting for the doctors to work something out. I hope you have better luck.
Re: incontinence and loss of bowel controlI am praying your doctors can resolve your problem. I have decided to postpone my scheduled cystoscopy. My urologist may go bananas. I hope not. Once you get to a certain age it doesn't make any sense to mess around with mother nature. Oops, just a joke! I'm always thinking of you.
Re: incontinence and loss of bowel controlMy grandfather was going through the same problem. It was very hard on him, especially after my grandmother passed away. He had a very hard time having to wear a diaper and he didn't have any surgery options. I am assuming it was just because of his age.
I will be praying for you as well.
Re: incontinence and loss of bowel controlThank you for your kind thoughts. I'm sorry your father had such a hard time. My wife is alive and well, but this is a real drag on both of us. We are talking about what to do next -- respite care, full-time care. I've had some dry nights since the hospital reinserted a catheter. It's not ideal, but better than nothing.
