bells palsy following perfusion procedure ?

Post a new topicby teen on Thu Nov 01, 2007 12:34 pm

Recently I had a perfusion procedure on my left ear to help with some bad dizziness - the vertigo was relieved but about three weeks later I woke up with paralysis of that same side of the face. The doctor said he had never seen this happen before and dismissed it as a possible side effect. We are now waiting further testing but are being told that it's Bells Palsy. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I found your comment about getting this after treatment involving the ear. I had gone to my doctor because sometimes I get impacted earwax and have to get it flushed by a doctor. A young nurse (aide?) removed the wax with a syringe filled with warm water and peroxide. The pressure she used on the syringe was stronger than I had ever felt before. The next day about 11 am I realized that my eye wasn't blinking and my face felt heavy. Same side of the face that the ear was cleaned on. So, maybe the treatments we received inflamed that nerve that causes Bell's Palsy.
