Autism

Post a new topicby tlc-kids on Fri Mar 28, 2008 11:24 am

My son is 28 moths old which is 2 years, 4 months old. He has 1 older sister shes 7, 1 older brother he's 5 and a younger sister shes 16 months. My 2 year old has been showing signs of autism atleast thats what a nurse said when she came out to see him, tell me if thats what you think. He calls everything a car, his ball is a car his food everything is car, he might can say 7 or 8 words, when the nurse came out he ignored her 3 whole hours then the last 30 minutes she was here he finally listened to her and played with her blocks and puzzles, but he didnt want anyone sitting with him while he played. He sometimes acts like he doesnt understand, if he does something and I say no you cant do that or no thats mean you cant be mean he looks at me like what is this woman saying. Its hard when i try to understand his wants cause if he wants something he doesnt say mommy im hungry or mommy i want to go outside he just says huh huh huh .If I dont understand him or I give him the wrong thing he throws a fit. Sometimes he throws his-self on the floor and has a fit for no reason at all, and when he plays with his toy cars he always manages to get the wheels off and throws the car down he has more wheels than cars. I'm worried bacause I was told his behavior isnt normal..Can someone give me some advice?

Hi
My Name is Neal i have worked with children with Autism for 17 years.
Your son could have Autism or it could be something else but the only way to find out is to go to the
right source. I would start at Autism Society of America or Autism Speaks thay are the two top sites
on Autism. At Autism Speaks look under the outreach section of there home page. At Autism
Society of America look under Services and Support theres a section wich has Find a doctor
experienced with Autism who is current on the latest developments in the field.
It is a check list of things to look for in Autism. Please don't fear Early Childhood Intervention in
Autism is very successfull and there is alot of support out there to help properly diagnose a childs
behavior problems. Make sure you get a second and if necesary a third opinion you need to get this
right.

I Hope This Was Helpfull
Neal
