Pulmonary RehabMy father, who is 80 years old, has asthma and also retains carbon dioxide but he is not on oxygen. He has been in and out of the hospital three times this year. He is probability doing something wrong but we did not know what. His pulmonary doctor does not seem to help him much other than just giving him medications and seeing how they work. So I took him to see the medical director of the pulmonary rehab that is near us to see if he could enter the program. She told us that he is not a candidate for the program because he does not speak english well. Is there any other pulmonary rehab, either as a group setting or a one-to-one that he can attend in the NYC area? I would take him and act as a translator as I always do. He feels that a rehab program would help him to manage his asthma better and to avoid going to the hospital everytime if he only knew what to do.
Re: Pulmonary RehabAlthough I am not aware of one in the NYC area, there may well be one that offers outpatient pulmonary rehab and that may be more conveinent for you. You may want to call rehab hospitals in your area and ask if they offer outpatient pulmonary rehab.
