Thank you for participating in the forum. I am sorry to hear about your condition. There is physician-developed and monitored information about asthma on this website at the following link:
http://www.pulmonologychannel.com/asthma/index.shtml

I hope this information is helpful. Physicians who monitor these forums respond to some posts but not to all, so please continue to post in the forum as you learn additional information.

I wish you the very best.

The Buteyko method or Buteyko Breathing Technique is primarily for the treatment of asthma, that includes a set of breathing exercises developed by the late Russian doctor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko. The method is a complementary therapy and several clinical tests have shown that it can reduce symptoms and the need for medication in some people, as well as increasing quality of life. However, improvement takes time and commitment, requiring daily exercises over a period of five days to several months.
At the core of the Buteyko method is a series of breathing exercises that focus on nasal-breathing, _breath-holding_ and relaxation.
Your provider may not support the idea.
Having problems with breathing, the Buteyko breath-holding may seem inadequate for the moment, but still, rapid breathing may lead to hyperventilation (the quicker you breathe, the worse you will feel), so, a controlled suffocation will help you to increase oxygen levels, (and decrease CO levels in your blood). Exercises should be conducted by skilled personnel (probably you won't get them in your neighborhood).
I tried it myself, its awful. But it is worth the try.
It did not work with me because I have pulmonary embolism, not asthma.
This is only information, not advice.
God be with you.

Joseph
