Insight and advice please...I have been battling neurological problems that presented themselves with seizures as well as decreased cognitive abilities in 2001.
At the beginning every neurologist was focusing only on the seizures. I entered a seizure clinic at Washington University in St. Louis and to my dismay after 2 weeks of observation I had no seizures and they released me not wanting to pursue any further. I moved to Georgia, seizure activity remained although not as it was in the beginning. It did however start to increase. I started again on the anti seizure medicine that Washington University took me off of months prior. I had been on disability since the onset of the seizures and decided to attempt to return to work after the anti seizure medicine seemed to be working. After 2-3 months of working the seizures increased and cognitive ability declined dramatically. I was sent to another seizure clinic in Augusta Georgia. They also had no interest in anything except the seizures and didn't concern themselves with the decreased cognitive abilities and the severe to moderate memory loss. Nothing showed during 3 days of observation. EEG's always fine and at that point all MRI's seemed clean. After a time I was sent to another neurologist. He ordered a PET scan which showed bi-lateral slowness in the frontal lobes. Have to excuse the holes in description, at any rate another MRI and nothing, for the next year EEG's etc were done, after a year or so some concern was given after the closed eye hold your arms out exam. Another MRI was done and this MRI came back showing a decreased circumference of the brain along with increased white matter not only in one area of the brain but spread throughout the brain. I'm not sure what this means. I am currently taking 1500mg Depakote for seizures, 9.4mg Exelon Patch, and 10mg Namenda. The cognitive condition is worsening and more time of decreased ability persists than it did before. I have asked my neurologist who has a great deal of patients and is in a rural area about clinical trials that I may qualify or any programs that may offer more hope. What would this condition be categorized as and what are the chances of finding a clinical trial of some type?
Re: Insight and advice please...I have some information on a clinical trial that you may qualify for. Please email me at [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed] for more details.
