Am i having Attention Defecit Disorder

Post a new topicby CV2 on Sun Aug 17, 2008 2:25 am

Hello Everyone.I am a student(now 19yrs).My problem is
1.Since my Childhood concentrating in class was a difficult ordeal for me.I tried all concentration measures but everything failed.I am not able to follow a single word at times.
2.I fumble alot with my Home works,I actually never ever did one with proper care or meausure.
3.Following instructions is a very difficult for me,because I find it difficult to grasp in a go.
4.Reading something for the first or certain contents prove really exhaustive for me.
5.I am a good speaker, but writing spellings properly is difficult,I always keep a dictionary with me,I am mostly in trouble with spellings...even now.
6.I have anxiety disorder, mostly my tummy is always upset.
7.Many things are always confusing; for eg where & were....Unless I really do a hard job understanding this, but still I forget.
8.Teachers close to me say I am exceptionally brilliant with my concepts and new ideas. But for others I am lazy boy who fairs badly ....still some how I managed to get through into engineering stream.
9.Right now I am very disappointed.I have been constantly failing in all my exams.I am lacking spirit.I am almost last in my class.
10.My short term memory is very weak and its difficult too.
11.I came up with many patentable concepts. But these issues restrained me from designing the same.
12.I lack understanding of many things because I was never able to concentrate in it.
13.I am mostly nervous these days.
14.I get angry very fast,Feeling like breaking things and throwing everything around...but the tolerance that I practise help me to overcome some of those extreme feelings
15.I get depressed too often. Then I dont feel like doing anything, feel low,and feel left alone.

Can someone please post some comments ....a helpful guidance !!! Do I have any disorder??? Do I need to go to a docter??

Hi there... Errr... I actually have the exact same problems...I didn't detail them as good as you did in your post though. My mind is a mess. To reply your question, yes, you have a problem, the question is how to solve this problem and what kind of doctor to visit. As a matter of fact I am seeing a neurologist tomorrow afternoon. Let's see what he says. I have also failed miserably to my exams, although if you give me time, I can tackle every assignement just fine. But I need a huge amount of time. I need to read a paragraph many many times to start grasping the meaning. Imagine a math exam :) I don't know about you, but this problem is also an issue while driving. I am not concentrated while driving and if to date, I haven't had any accident, it's a miracle. I have already missed red traffic lights. Personally, I don't drive fast partly for this reason. BTW, I also have Fibromyalgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibromyalgia) with the notorious brain fog :'(

Thanks for the message.Actually I am very good in maths once i grasp it.I can actually create new definitions too...But the problem is the TIME that it takes.Mostly I am really confused.Even driving I am a good driver ...but many of times is sheer luck ...because Iam never able to concentrate on it :)....Hope you could get me some suggestions soon

Yesterday I went to the neurologist who acknowledged the problem and said next month I would go through a series of tests. More to come...
